The First Female Vice-Chancellor of a Nigerian University, Professor Alele Williams

Professor Grace Alele Williams, became the first Female Vice-Chancellor in the History of Nigeria.
She gained this great feat, when she was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of  the University of Benin (Uniben) in 1985.

The Academician, who was born in Warri, had her Secondary education in Queen’s College , Lagos. She obtained her first and second degrees from the University of Ibadan respectively. At her Mid 40's Young Grace, taught Mathematics in Queen’s School, Ede in Osun State after her first degree.

She became the first Nigeria Woman to have a Ph.D in 1963. Prof. Grace,  Alele, Williams earned her doctorate degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago. She was appointed an assistant professor in Vermont University that same year.
Prof Alele Williams , returned to Nigeria and joined the University of Ibadan (UI), her Alma Mater . She was pronounced a professor of mathematics in 1976. She progressed to the University of Lagos as a senior mathematics lecturer.

Professor Grace Alele Williams, was  internationally recognized as a renowned  mathematician. She led numerous workshops, Seminars on mathematics both in Africa and in the  United States of America (U.S.A). She has won many awards  to her name, both in Nigeria and across the world.

In 1985, Professor Grace Williams, inked her name in  the sand of time, by becoming the first Nigeria Woman to be made a University Vice-Chancellor. She was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (Uniben). 

Indeed she has  contributed immensely to the developmental drive of  Our educational Sector here  in Nigeria and Africa at large. Her achievement will forever be remembered amongst  Nigerians.
